How does a recruitment agency benefit me?
Recruitment agencies are your golden ticket to getting a new job. But shh because most people don’t know this secret.
By getting in contact with a recruiter (like one of our consultants) they’ll chat with you about what you’re looking for in your next role and what you need to do to achieve your career goals.
If there are any current roles open that suit your tastes, the Consultant will assess whether it’s perfect for you and then present your profile to a client if it is. If that specific role isn’t the bread to your butter, a consultant will add you to our database.
What does it mean when a recruitment agency says "We'll add you to our database"?
Ah, welcome to the magical ability of a recruitment database.
How our consultants work is; when a new role comes in, our database is the first place they check for candidates who might be suited.
When your profile is then living in our database, you’ll be one of the first people to be contacted if a new role is being worked on. Lucky you.
If you’d like to join the cool kids club (aka the database), send your resume to [email protected] and once you’ve had a chat with a consultant, you’ll be added.
But if you’d prefer not to be contacted about potential job opportunities, just holla at us, and we’ll make note of it.
How do I get in touch with Eight?
It’s easy peasy. Send an email to [email protected] or call 02 4069 0880 if you have any questions.
Alternatively, you can reach any of our consultants through email, phone, or LinkedIn if you have specific questions about an advertised role.
What if there isn't a role available for me right now?
Bad timing. But have no fear, the Eight Recruitment database is here. If you’re in our database, you’ll be contacted as soon as the role that’s suited to you comes in.
In the meantime, keep an eye on all our socials, including LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram. We post regular updates for new roles, and you could be the first one to see a new role. Quick, go there now.
I've never had a job before. Where do I start?
How exciting. Creating a resume is the best place to start. This can be hard if you’ve never had a job but we’re sure you’ve got skills hidden there somewhere.
What about that time that you helped in the canteen at sport? Or have you done babysitting recently?
How to show this on your resume can be hard. If you work backward it helps. So, you babysat two kids for an afternoon. This then involved you managing the safety of two kids, while balancing their food intake and ensuring the house is kept clean and tidy. What does that show? That you’re able to multitask and deal with competing priorities. Both are skills that are valued in your first job.
How long does the recruitment process take?
It depends. How annoying is that answer? From the day you submit an application through to receiving an offer could be several days to several weeks. Depending on the role and the client, there could be multiple interviews, reference checks, and medicals, all of which follow different timeframes.
Because our consultants are fluent in chatting your ear off, they’ll try to keep you as updated as possible throughout the entire time. This way you won’t be left forming doubts.
What can I do to put forward the best application?
Chat to one of our consultants to ensure you align with the role's responsibilities. Once you’ve done that, they just might even help you with your resume too.
Our consultants are the best in the biz and if reading applications was an Olympic sport, we’d win gold for sure. If you need some help navigating how to get the best start in the race, give the office a bell.
Other tips to ensure you’re making the best application are:
- Submit an up-to-date resume. And make sure it’s the right file. Especially if you’ve got “attention to detail” on your resume.
- Do some research on the hiring company, and curate a cover letter suited to the role
- Use the contact details at the bottom of the ad. Going the extra mile to make contact with the recruiter will help strengthen your relationship. And having your recruiter on your side from day dot will certainly help.
- Be responsive. Ensure you reply to every form of communication you can
I don't have the exact skills for a specific role, is there anything else I can do?
Always. Showing your enthusiasm for the role, company, and industry is the number 1 thing you could do.
If you’re finding you’re being pipped to the post because you lack one skill or area of knowledge, there’s one thing you can do. Find a way that you can gain it. Whether this be through Tafe, University, or another provider, showcase to your potential new employer that you’re interested in gaining this skill. And if you’re successful in gaining the role, ensure you follow through.
